Settling In

Flying Gawker or Walker as I am calling him came into foster with me not quite a week ago. He is a sweet soul, but quite shy. He has the most gorgeous warm eyes. He really seems to enjoy being part of a pack as he has 3 canine foster siblings and 1 feline foster sibling. We won't count the avian sibling. Walker has not figured yet out where all those crazy noises that Reggie makes are coming from.

Walker has done well with with my 17 year old, dog-savvy kitty. The first couple of days, I don't even think he realized the cat was there. Then he gave a couple of half hearted chases and got a mild verbal correction. Walker does NOT like to be in trouble so just a quiet verbal correction is enough to make him stop.

Walker is definitely not a fan of leashes but loves to run around my fenced in backyard. He clearly enjoys having a nice sized yard to sniff and explore. It's like watching a kid at an amusement park. So much to see and do!

He's happy to follow along with the rest of the pack outside and in the house. He likes to be in the same room with me, but likes to watch me from a distance. Every so often, when I least expect it, he'll sneak up from behind and give me a quick sniff.

He's still getting the hang of the steps. He's long and lanky so his legs sometimes get in his way on the steps, but he's maneuvering them pretty well.

He LOVES his crates. I have a soft-sided one in bedroom for him to sleep in at night and a wire one in my dog room with all my dogs' crates. He obviously feels comfortable and safe in a crate. He knows when it's dinner time. He goes right in his crate and patiently waits to be served his dinner.

Walker still hasn't figured out toys yet, but he watches my dogs intently, carry and play with their toys. He is also still trying to figure out the whole treat thing. He loves to eat. He's just not always sure what he's supposed to eat. Again, he watches his foster siblings for clues when it comes to treats. If they are eating it, it must be ok.

He's quite the ladies man too. He loves to follow my girls around (greyhound and lab mix alike). Don't get me wrong. He likes my male Blaze, but he really has a thing for the girls.

Walker will probably make a nice companion for someone who is tends to stay closer to home. He doesn't seem to mind traveling but he's more a creature of habit. Even though he's still a youngster, he really likes routine. He's not a boy who will probably ever love spontaneous outings or events. He enjoys a quiet environment where he can relax and just enjoy life.

Walker is a terrific boy. He is waiting patiently for the right family to come along.
